White Sands Bahamas Men’s Invitational Ranks Among Top 10 Amateur Events of 2025
This exciting development comes on the heels of the inaugural edition of the event, which awarded a pair of PGA TOUR sponsor exemptions to Georgia’s Grayson Wood and North Carolina’s Carson Bertagnole.
Wood, who won the 54-hole event with a terrific score of 8-under par despite blustery conditions, has opted to play in the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic in May. The Georgia Bulldog finished birdie-par-birdie-birdie to capture the title by one stroke. He posted rounds of 71, 69, and 68 on the par-72 layout.
“Being in the Bahamas, playing here, and hanging out at Atlantis has been so much fun,” Wood said after his win.
“It can't be better at this time of the year. It’s only about 40 degrees back in the states, even in Georgia. So being in 70-degree weather with warm sunshine, and receiving a PGA TOUR exemption too, all of it is just incredible.”
Bertagnole, who triumphed in a 4-for-1 playoff to secure the second exemption for the runner-up, will tee it up at the Puerto Rico Open in March. He was the only player to make par on the difficult par-4 18th hole twice, and as a result, Bertagnole earned another trip back to the Caribbean. Both players will be making their PGA TOUR debuts.
Previous White Sands Bahamas iterations welcomed ten to fifteen women’s and men’s NCAA teams on an annual basis. But as the college landscape continues to evolve, and the play of amateur golf continues to improve, tournament officials decided to make the 2025 men’s edition a 72-player invitational with 54-holes of individual stroke play. SPORTFIVE, which facilitates multiple PGA TOUR events, including the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic and Puerto Rico Open, organized and operated the White Sands Bahamas Men’s Invitational. The decision to alter this tournament’s structure has paid dividends thus far.
We are delighted to see that WAGR awarded the White Sands Bahamas Men’s Invitational with 860 ranking points, a testament to the strong field that played down in paradise. Better yet, we got to witness future stars of the sport enjoy themselves not only on the golf course, but in a tropical setting with all the amazing amenities that The Bahamas and Paradise Island have to offer.
Jeff Raedle, Executive Vice President of Golf Events at SPORTFIVE
The Tom Weiskopf-designed Ocean Club Golf Course, which features 13 holes with a view of the sea, played host to this tournament. It sits on the eastern end of Paradise Island, making it an easy shuttle ride from the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort.
SPORTFIVE, together with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Atlantis, facilitated every player’s transportation from the airport to the daily shuttle rides. The entire field stayed on the island, enjoying everything from the beach to the restaurants, and the famous water slides that Atlantis offers their guests. The Bahamian hospitality was second to none as every local welcomed all involved with open arms.
The players felt quite receptive too, as many indicated that they are looking forward to returning to future installments of the White Sands Bahamas Men’s Invitational.
“This tournament is definitely a must add to the calendar,” Bertagnole said while smiling with the runner-up trophy.
“You’re playing for two PGA Tour spots and you’re in The Bahamas in December, so you can’t really get much better than that. It’s been an incredible experience both on and off the golf course and I have had so much fun hanging out here. I can’t recommend this event enough.”
