Speedo and AOC unveil cutting edge Olympic swimwear range for Paris 2024

Sydney, April 19, 2024 – The Australian Olympic Committee has partnered with the world's leading swimwear brand, Speedo, in a deal facilitated by SPORTFIVE. Australia's leading aquatic athletes have shown off their high-tech Speedo swimwear that’s designed to give them an edge at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Modeled by Olympic champions, world record holders, and aspiring Paris 2024 athletes, the cutting-edge swimwear uses Lamoral® Space Tech, developed by an all-female design team at Speedo’s Aqualab, continuing Speedo’s rich Olympic legacy.

Australian Olympians in swimming, water polo, surfing and diving will compete in Speedo competition wear at Paris 2024, while all members of the Australian Olympic Team will receive training wear, for use in ice baths, recovery and other water training.

Speedo Aqualab worked closely with Lamoral, whose initial coatings were used on satellites, to develop cutting edge suits with Speedo’s lowest water absorption and the most durable water repellence benefit. Developed for the first time by an all-female Aqualab development team, the competitive range is highlighted by Speedo’s Fastskin® LZR® Intent 2.0 and LZR Valor 2.0 swimsuits, offering improved hydrophobic qualities, allowing athletes to perform at peak performance on race day.

Swimmers including Australia’s most successful Olympian Emma McKeon, Olympic champion Ariarne Titmus, Olympic diving medallist Maddi Keeney and Water Polo World Championship medallist Gabi Palm modelled the Olympic uniforms they are hoping to wear in Paris.

The swimwear features Indigenous Olympic boxer Paul Fleming’s ‘Walking Together’ design, which depicts the Olympics as a central meeting point, bringing people from different nations, backgrounds and experiences together.

Speedo’s Paris 2024 uniforms continue their long-standing support of the Australian Olympic Team, stretching back to the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.

Chef de Mission of the Australian Olympic Team for Paris 2024 Anna Meares thanked Speedo for their world-leading support for Australian athletes: “Speedo has an incredible Olympic history, providing our athletes with the best competition and training wear from the exploits of Dawn Fraser and Murray Rose at Melbourne 1956 to the incredible results in the pool at Tokyo 2020. Australian athletes are thrilled with the look, fit and feel of the Speedo uniforms, ready to write the next chapter of Australian Olympic history at Paris 2024. Thank you to Speedo for your ongoing support of athletes, and for making sure our swimmers, water polo players, divers and surfers look and feel their best as they compete at Paris 2024, and the entire Australian Olympic Team has great training wear for their water activity and recovery.”

“SPORTFIVE is extraordinarily proud to have worked with the Australian Olympic Committee and with Speedo in bringing together this world class partnership for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games for our Australian Olympic Team”, Damien Moston, Managing Director Australia & New Zealand, SPORTFIVE, said. “Speedo has demonstrated amazing commitment and support for the Australian Olympic Movement since 1956 and continues to bring exceptional innovation through Speedo AquaLab to drive future performance for our Australian aquatic athletes on the biggest sporting stage in the world. We can’t wait to see their performances in Paris and success for Speedo and our Australian Olympians.”

Australia’s most decorated Olympian Emma McKeon was excited to see the Olympic uniforms: “The Speedo LZR Intent 2.0 is very flexible and is firm in the right spots. I feel like I can really move and it seems like the water is not sticking to the suit, it really glides off. This is the best racing suit in the world, it feels fast and I can’t wait to wear it.”

“The compression of Speedo’s LZR Valor 2.0 is noticeable in all the right areas, allowing me to feel powerful and glide through the water with ease. I am so excited to compete in it on the biggest stage,” Olympic champion Ariarne Titmus added.

Tokyo Olympian goalkeeper for the Aussie Stingers water polo team, Gabi Palm, said the launch made Paris feel even closer: “Seeing the uniform on all the athletes makes it feel so real. Seeing it in real life, you just realise how close it’s getting and the excitement just keeps building. I love the design of our kit for Paris! I loved the gold at the top and fading into the green and the incorporation of the Indigenous artwork. When I put on the Tokyo Olympic togs for the first time, I was pretty speechless because it really sunk in that this was the Olympic uniform, that my dream was coming to life. It’s a really special moment, and to be able to do that again in Paris would be amazing - it’s not something you get used to.”

Rio Olympic medallist Maddi Keeney said the Australian Olympic Team uniforms helped forge a special bond between athletes and supporters. “It felt so incredible wearing the Australian uniform in Rio- it felt like I was a part of a greater family even outside of my own sport,” she said. “These events bring about a really special camaraderie for our nation and I really want to experience that again. It’s really exciting to be able to see the kit ahead of Paris - whether you’re a sportss fan or not it helps people get into the spirit of the Olympics.”

“Speedo and Australia just go together, and we’re excited to unveil our new range that not only showcases the iconic green and gold, but also tells the story of our country, its people and our shared journey. It’s a collection that all Australians can be proud to wear, from those who are showing their Aussie pride in their local pool, to the chosen few on whose shoulders the hopes of our nation rest”, Speedo Australia General Manager Graham Eyres commented on the partnership. “Combining these stunning designs with our pioneering swimwear technology means that Aussie athletes across aquatics disciplines will not only look the part, but will benefit from the most advanced swimwear available anywhere. With the best swimwear, and the backing of the best supporters in the world, we know that Aussie stars are ready to make a splash in Paris.”

Aussie fans can show their support during the Games thanks to an exclusive retail release of training swimwear. The green and gold collection can be purchased in selected aquatic centres, Rebel Sports, online and at Speedo stores.
