The DHB is the largest handball federation in the world - and one of the most successful. The sport has a long history of success in Germany.

Handball has been played in Germany for more than 100 years, first outdoors on a large field and later indoors on a smaller court. Since the 1990s, beach handball has added a whole new, trendy layer to the sport. Handball is versatile and captivates women and men of all ages - from national team players to children.

  • Access to handball and physical activity for all is the purpose of our association and therefore our daily business. This has a positive impact on physical and mental health, especially in community, children's and youth sports.

  • Equality is a central task of the DHB and its subdivisions.

  • The integration of people from different backgrounds helps us to attract new members in the future, to grow as a handball family and to strengthen diversity in our society.

  • We provide communication platforms for inclusive programmes offered by our clubs and the respective federations.

  • Prevention of sexualised violence, anti-doping, fairness and neutrality are the guidelines for actions within the association.

  • We use our resources for a purpose that is socially recognised as charitable in the sense of a non-profit organisation.

  • We create good and fair working conditions for our employees and everyone involved in handball.

We will initially focus on the following environmental sustainability actions until 2025:

  • Reducing the carbon footprint of travel activities by volunteers and staff as well as promoting carbon friendly travel by fans through appropriate incentives and communication.

  • Reduction of waste and resource consumption, e.g. reduction of event-related 'materials' and digitalisation.

  • Responsible consumption and careful use of resources, e.g. general supplies.

  • Reduction of energy consumption, resource-saving operation (especially for the planned academies).
