Orange Africa Cup of Nations - Biennial

The Orange Africa Cup of Nations is Africa's premier national team football competition. The 32-match tournament is organised every even year in January/February and is open to nations affiliated to the CAF.

The last Africa Cup of Nations, staged in Ghana, was a resounding success, both on a sporting and commercial level:

  • 32 matches involving 16 teams were played over 23 days in 4 stadiums.
    There were over 4,500 hours of Africa Cup of Nations Ghana 2008TM programming broadcast worldwide, representing a 9% increase on the total for the Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2006TM.
  • The total audience per match of approximately 154 million people represented an average 10% increase over the audiences for the Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2006TM.

Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) - Biennial

The Africa Nations Championship is a new competition created by the CAF. It is open to the national teams of the associations affiliated to the CAF which exclusively feature national players active in the national championships.

The competition will be organised every odd year in February, starting 2009.

Orange Africa Youth Championship (U-20) - Biennial

The Orange Africa Youth Championship is a competition organised every odd year in January and is open to the youth (under 20) representative teams of African associations affiliated to the CAF.

The Orange Africa Youth Championship also serves as a qualifying tournament for the final round of the World Youth Championship organised by FIFA.

Orange CAF Champions League - Annual

The Orange CAF Champions League is Africa's premier club championship, succeeding the Africa Cup of Champions Clubs (1964-1996). The 30-match competition is organised every year from July to November and is open to all CAF affiliated national league champions.

The winner of the Orange CAF Champions League qualifies to represent Africa in the FIFA Club World Cup, together with the winners of the 5 other confederations.

Orange CAF Confederation Cup - Annual

The Orange CAF Confederation Cup was created in 2004 and is a combination of two previous CAF competitions: the Africa Winner's Cup and the CAF Cup. The 30-match competition is organised every year from August to November and is open to cup winner club teams belonging to CAF affiliated associations.

The winner of the Orange CAF Confederation Cup plays against the winner of the Orange CAF Champions League in the Orange CAF Super Cup.

For Africa, 53 teams, 5 + 1 places

After two preliminary rounds, 20 teams play in five groups of four. The group winners qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
